You glance down at your hand while waiting at a red light, and your favorite ring looks… flat. Not broken, not scratched, just cloudy. Then you put your glasses back on and the world has that faint smudge again, the one that never quite wipes away.
Everyday pieces get dull slowly, so it's easy to stop noticing. The good news is that most of that dullness is just buildup, and getting rid of it doesn't have to mean scrubbing with a toothbrush over the sink.
The short version
- Most dullness is everyday buildup: lotion, soap and skin oil.
- Hand cleaning works on the surface but struggles with settings, links and hinges.
- An ultrasonic cleaner reaches those spots with tiny bubbles and plain water.
- Some pieces should never go in one. The list is below.
Our ultrasonic cleaner runs a 5-minute cycle and stops by itself. It's at its launch price of $47.99 until November 30.
Why jewelry and glasses get dull
Hand lotion, soap, sunscreen, makeup and the natural oils on your skin all leave a thin film. On a ring, it collects under the stone and inside the setting, which is exactly where light should bounce around. On glasses, it builds up around the nose pads, hinges and the edges of the lenses.
None of it happens overnight, which is why a piece can go from sparkling to dull without you noticing when it changed.
Cleaning by hand: what works and where it falls short
For a quick refresh, warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush go a long way. A clean microfiber cloth is still the best everyday tool for glasses.
The trouble is the places you can't see or reach: the underside of a stone, the tiny gaps between chain links, the screws and hinges on your frames. Scrubbing those takes time, and it's easy to be rougher than you mean to be.
How an ultrasonic cleaner works, in plain words
An ultrasonic cleaner sends high-frequency sound waves through water. Ours runs at 48 kHz. Those waves create millions of tiny bubbles that form and collapse against the surface of whatever is in the tank, lifting dirt out of grooves and crevices without any scrubbing.
You don't feel or hear much: just a soft hum for a few minutes while the water does the work.

A simple 5-minute cleaning routine
1. Fill the tank
Add tap water up to, but not over, the MAX line in the 350 mL stainless-steel tank.
2. Add your pieces
Place rings, earrings, a chain or your glasses in the water. Don't overcrowd the tank; a few pieces at a time clean more evenly.
3. Add solution only if you need it
Plain water works for everyday grime. For heavy, set-in buildup, a drop of cleaning solution helps.
4. Close, plug in and choose a mode
Close the lid, plug in the power cord, then tap the button once for the 5-minute Daily Care cycle or twice for the 7-minute Deep Clean. It switches itself off at the end.
5. Dry and wear
Lift your pieces out and pat them dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. For glasses, a final pass with a microfiber cloth finishes the job.

If you'd like to make this a five-minute habit, everything above happens in one small machine.
What to clean, and what to skip
Great for
- Rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets
- Glasses and sunglasses
- Watch bands
- Retainers and aligners
- Makeup brushes and small metal items
Skip these
- Glasses with scratched or peeling lens coatings

If you're unsure about a special or valuable piece, ask your jeweler before cleaning it.
What makes an ultrasonic cleaner different
A polishing cloth or a jar of jewelry dip is the usual alternative. Both have their place, but a cloth only reaches the surface, and dips need care with some metals and stones.
The Ultrasonic Jewelry & Eyeglass Cleaner is built for the hard-to-reach spots:
- No scrubbing: the bubbles reach settings, links and hinges for you.
- Two one-touch modes: 5-minute Daily Care or 7-minute Deep Clean, with auto-stop.
- A 350 mL, 304 stainless-steel tank that needs only water.
- Small and light at 0.57 kg (1.3 lb), so it fits on a vanity or desk.
What's in the box
- Ultrasonic cleaner
- Watch stand
- US power cord
- Instruction manual

Looking after your cleaner
- Keep the water below the MAX line.
- Wipe the tank dry after each use, and never rinse the base under a tap.
- After two cycles in a row, let it rest for about 15 minutes.
Common questions
Do I need a special cleaning solution?
No. Plain water works for everyday grime. A drop of ultrasonic cleaning solution helps with heavy, set-in dirt.
How long does it take?
Daily Care runs for 5 minutes and Deep Clean for 7. The cleaner stops automatically at the end of each cycle.
Is it safe for all my jewelry?
Most solid metal and diamond pieces are fine. Skip antique pieces, loose stones and soft stones like pearls, opal, emerald and amber, and glasses with damaged coatings.
What if it's not for me?
You can return unused items within 30 days for a refund. See our returns policy for the details.
Five minutes, and your favorites feel new to you again
You don't need a jeweler's appointment or a toothbrush over the sink. Fill with water, drop in your pieces, press once, and put the kettle on.
